The wind energy sector requires large cast parts with high strength and dimensional stability. Turbine hubs, main shaft bearings and support housings must operate reliably for years under variable wind loads. These parts are usually produced by nodular (ductile) iron casting, because ductile iron combines high tensile strength with ductility.
Balancing Size and Quality
The most critical issue in large-scale wind parts is achieving a homogeneous internal structure at every point of the cross-section. Modulus-based feeding design and casting simulation prevent shrinkage cavities; internal soundness is verified by inspection.
Morçelik’s Contribution
With our melting capacity of up to 10 tonnes in a single tap and our large-part feeding experience, we provide reliable casting solutions for wind energy equipment. Every part is produced with traceable and repeatable quality.
